April 20, 2026, 1:00 p.m. ET. Louisiana has become the fourth state in the nation to begin issuing privileges under the Counseling Compact, marking another significant milestone in expanding access to professional counseling services across state lines.
With the issuance of privileges now underway, eligible Licensed Professional Counselors can practice in Louisiana using their compact privilege, reducing barriers to care and improving continuity of services for clients who live, work, or relocate across state boundaries. This step advances the Compact’s mission to increase access to high-quality counseling services while maintaining strong public protection standards.
Louisiana joins Arizona, Minnesota, and Ohio as the fourth state to operationalize the Compact by issuing privileges. Additional member jurisdictions are actively working toward implementation, with more expected to begin issuing privileges in the coming months.
